I spent the winter of 2021 in Mosul, Baghdad, Fallujah, and the marshlands near Basra. In post-ISIS Mosul, I documented the scars of war etched into the city’s ruins and its people; in Baghdad and Fallujah, I followed the slow, uneasy process of reconstruction amid political instability. In the southern marshlands, I met families whose livelihoods were vanishing due to drought, pollution, and upstream damming — a glimpse into how climate change and conflict collide in Iraq’s most vulnerable regions.
